Thackway and Deverill Crews

Pages have been added for the Thackway and Deveill crews. Both these crews were lost in England due to fog on Black Thursday, 16/17 December 1943. Out of the 14 men who comprised these two crews, there were only 3 survivors – Leslie Laver, James Benbow, and Peter Mack, often known as Joe.

Incredibly, Leslie Laver, of the Thackway crew, received only minor scratches and shock. Returned to flying duties, he was killed a month later when flying with another crew.

Both James Benbow and Peter Mack were seriously injured. They spent months in hospital, and neither returned to operational flying.

More Black Thursday crews will be posted shortly.
