Once aircrew could fly safely over Germany in daylight, many were absolutely amazed by the devastation which had been wrought by Allied bombing. Crews sometimes took photographs of the apocalyptic scenes. Horace Bennett, a highly decorated gunner on 635 Squadron, had a small collection of these photographs, presumably taken during his crew’s trips over Germany on Cook’s Tours.
Horace Gordon Bennett was known as Benny.

He can be seen here after he had flown with the CO of 635 Squadron, Tubby Baker, on his 100th operation in March 1945: 635 Squadron – Tubby Baker
