All Pathfinder squadrons carried out a constant programme of on-the-job training. The squadrons varied greatly in how much detail they gave in their ORBs about the training programmes, which included exercises such as Fighter Affiliation and Y Bombing Runs. The following list from the 635 Squadron Operations Record Book for 10 April 1944 is unusually detailed.
Even these routine training exercises could result in tragic loss of life. Here it is recorded that the Farrant crew were all killed on a Y Bombing Runs exercise.
